Kochi: The Kerala High Court has granted permission to the state government to take possession of land for the rehabilitation of victims affected by landslides in Wayanad. The court directed the government to deposit an additional ₹17 crore in the High Court registry, in addition to the ₹26 crore that has already been deposited.
The land acquisition is part of the state’s rehabilitation project aimed at resettling people who lost their homes and properties due to devastating landslides in the Wayanad district. The court’s approval clears the way for the government to proceed with the next steps of the project.
The High Court also indicated that further procedures, including the distribution of compensation to the landowners, will be based on the funds deposited. The decision is expected to significantly accelerate the rehabilitation efforts in the region.
