Kochi: The Kerala High Court has extended the stay on toll collection at Paliyekkara, stressing that people’s grievances and traffic woes must be addressed before resuming collection.
The court directed Thrissur District Collector to verify compliance with earlier directives and submit a report. While the Union Government argued that toll collection cannot be indefinitely delayed and repairs on state and local roads should not stall it, the court observed otherwise.
It noted that the Collector had already submitted a report to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), but clarity on key issues was still awaited. Reviewing the interim transport committee’s findings, the court remarked that congestion and local problems remain unresolved, making toll collection premature.
Adjourning the case to next Monday, the High Court said the stay on toll collection will continue until further orders.
