Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has officially submitted a list of six senior IPS officers to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the selection of the next Director General of Police (DGP). Among the top names is M R Ajithkumar, currently serving as the head of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau.
The move comes as the tenure of the current State Police Chief Shaik Darvesh Saheb nears its end. The list includes officers of the 1989 and 1990 IPS batches who are eligible for the post, and all have held significant leadership roles in state and central agencies.
According to sources, the list submitted by the Kerala government includes the following names:
- M R Ajithkumar – Director, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau
- T K Vinod Kumar – Additional DGP (Law and Order)
- Manoj Abraham – ADGP (Headquarters)
- Rishiraj Singh – Former Transport Commissioner
- Anil Kant – Former State Police Chief
- A Hemachandran – Director General, Prisons
The UPSC will now scrutinize the list and prepare a final panel of three officers, from which the Kerala government will appoint the new DGP. The appointment process follows the Supreme Court guidelines, which require a minimum tenure of two years for the selected officer.
The final decision is expected in the coming weeks, as the government looks to ensure a smooth transition in the state’s top police leadership.
