Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant move for healthcare workers, the Kerala government has issued a draft notification revising the salaries of nurses and other employees in private hospitals across the state. As per the proposal, the minimum monthly salary for nurses has been fixed between ₹25,450 and ₹30,880, a step expected to benefit thousands working in the private healthcare sector.
The decision comes shortly after large-scale protests led by the United Nurses Association. On March 4, thousands of nurses staged a demonstration and sit-in protest in front of the Kerala Secretariat, demanding a salary hike and improved working conditions. The association had earlier warned that if the government failed to issue an order on minimum wages by Monday, they would launch an indefinite strike, putting pressure on authorities to act swiftly.
