Kerala Gold Rush: Prices Soar to Record ₹82,240 per Sovereign

Kochi: Gold prices in Kerala skyrocketed to a fresh record on Saturday, with rates jumping ₹600 per sovereign (8 grams) to touch ₹82,240. The price per gram rose by ₹75, now standing at ₹10,280.

This surge comes after a volatile month: starting at ₹77,640 per sovereign, gold crossed the ₹80,000 mark on September 9 for the first time, dipped midweek, and rebounded strongly to hit its highest level yet.

Global cues have fueled the rally. A recent cut in U.S. interest rates initially pulled international gold prices down from $3,698 to $3,627 per ounce, but renewed demand quickly sent them soaring again, lifting domestic rates in Kerala to record highs.
