Kochi: Gold in Kerala has hit an all-time high, soaring past the ₹77,000 mark. Prices shot up by ₹680 per sovereign (8 grams) on Monday, taking the rate to ₹77,640. The per-gram price climbed by ₹85 to touch ₹9,705.
After a dip of nearly ₹2,300 around August 20 from the earlier ₹75,760 recorded on August 8, prices have bounced back sharply.
Analysts point to global factors behind the rally, including the U.S. decision to levy a 50% tariff on Indian imports, which has shaken stock markets and driven investors towards gold as a safe-haven asset.
