Kerala Floats ₹1,100 Crore Tender to Kickstart Palakkad Smart City – Major Boost for Industrial Corridor

In a major stride toward transforming Palakkad into a next-generation industrial hub, the Kerala government has invited tenders worth ₹1,100 crore for the development of core infrastructure under the Palakkad Smart City project. This ambitious initiative is a key part of the Kochi-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor and is expected to fast-track industrial and technological growth in the region.

The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) has called for bids to develop infrastructure across 1,400 acres in Puthussery Central and Kannambra, which have been designated as part of an Integrated Manufacturing Cluster. The tender follows an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model that includes design, execution, and maintenance responsibilities.

The infrastructure plan covers everything from internal roads, bridges, drainage, and sewerage systems to fire-fighting networks, power supply, water reuse, and effluent treatment facilities.

Implementation will be overseen by the Kerala Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Ltd (KICDC), a special purpose vehicle formed jointly by the central and state governments through the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT).

So far, the Kerala government has invested ₹1,489 crore via KIIFB for land acquisition, while the central government has pledged ₹1,789.92 crore for developing infrastructure in the cluster.

The first phase of the Palakkad Smart City is slated for completion in four years, representing a significant leap toward making Kerala an industrial powerhouse in southern India.
