The Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce has intensified its strike preparations by mandating all affiliate bodies to seek prior approval for new film releases after March 25. This move is part of a larger effort to unify producers, exhibitors, and distributors ahead of the industry-wide strike scheduled for June 1.
The strike is being called to address critical concerns, including financial losses due to high entertainment taxes and skyrocketing actor remunerations. However, the decision has sparked a deep divide within the Malayalam film industry. The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has openly opposed the strike, warning that it could worsen the industry’s financial struggles.
The Chamber’s directive has also cast uncertainty over the release of major films, notably L2: Empuraan, produced by Antony Perumbavoor and starring Mohanlal. With tensions escalating, the fate of upcoming Malayalam films now hangs in the balance as industry stakeholders navigate this growing crisis.
