Kerala Faces Power Crisis as Night-Time Consumption Hits 6000 MW; Additional Power to Be Purchased

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is grappling with a power crisis as electricity consumption during nighttime has surged to 6000 MW. The sharp increase in demand has put immense pressure on the state’s power grid, prompting the government to consider purchasing additional power to prevent shortages.

According to officials, the rise in temperature and increased use of cooling appliances have significantly contributed to the spike in electricity usage. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is now exploring options to procure power from external sources to ensure an uninterrupted supply.

Authorities have urged the public to adopt energy-saving measures to ease the load on the grid. Meanwhile, discussions are underway to secure more power from the national grid and renewable sources to manage the growing demand effectively.
