Kerala Enforces 52-Day Trawling Ban from June 9: Boosts Coastal Safety with Marine Ambulances and Rented Boats

Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to conserve marine resources and ensure the safety of fishing communities during the monsoon season, Kerala will enforce a 52-day trawling ban from midnight on June 9 to July 31. Announcing the decision, Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian detailed several safety measures, including the deployment of 19 privately hired boats across nine coastal districts for rescue and patrolling duties. Additionally, three marine ambulances will be stationed at Vizhinjam, Vypin, and Beypore fisheries stations to respond swiftly to emergencies. To coordinate enforcement, 24-hour control rooms have been operational in all coastal districts since May 15. The minister assured that last year’s enforcement strategies will be implemented more effectively this year to ensure smooth execution of the ban.
