Kerala’s electricity consumers can breathe a sigh of relief as the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has announced a notable cut in fuel surcharge for the month of December.
According to KSEB, the fuel surcharge — which had gone up to 10 paise per unit during the September to November period — will now be reduced, offering direct savings for households across the state.
Consumers who receive monthly electricity bills will benefit from a 5-paise reduction per unit, while those receiving bi-monthly bills will see an 8-paise reduction per unit.
There had been widespread concerns that the surcharge would rise after the earlier surcharge cap was removed. Addressing these worries, the Office of the Electricity Minister stepped in with a new notification confirming that the surcharge would decrease instead of increase, ensuring meaningful relief for all electricity users in the state this December.
