Thiruvananthapuram: A 2023 Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons issued to Vivek Kiran, son of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has resurfaced in the media, reigniting political controversy in the state. According to multiple reports, the ED had summoned Vivek in connection with a money laundering investigation, reportedly linked to alleged irregularities in the Life Mission housing project.
The notice, issued under Sections 50(2) and 50(3) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), directed Vivek to appear before the agency’s Kochi office on February 14, 2023, with details of his bank accounts, assets, and those of his family members. The summons was reportedly signed by P.K. Anand, then Assistant Director of the Kochi ED office.
However, sources suggest that Vivek did not appear before the agency, and no further immediate action followed. The revelation of the summons has triggered sharp political reactions, with opposition parties accusing the ruling front of shielding the Chief Minister’s family from scrutiny and demanding a full disclosure from the ED.
As of now, the Enforcement Directorate has not officially commented on the status or outcome of the probe, leaving the matter open to public and political speculation.
