Thiruvananthapuram: In a major relief to pensioners across Kerala, the state government has kick-started the distribution of social security and welfare fund pensions, crediting ₹3,600 to each beneficiary as part of a two-month payout.
The disbursal includes ₹1,600, marking the final installment of long-pending arrears, along with the ₹2,000 pension amount for November. With this round of payments, the state has successfully cleared all outstanding pension dues. To facilitate this, the Finance Department had allocated a substantial ₹1,864 crore on October 31.
A massive 63.7 lakh beneficiaries are set to benefit from this distribution. The government has also been ensuring timely pension payments since March. Previously, the state required ₹900 crore per month for pensions, but after increasing the pension amount by ₹400, the monthly requirement has risen to ₹1,050 crore.
To ensure smooth delivery, about 50% of beneficiaries will receive their pension directly into their bank accounts, while the rest will have it delivered to their homes through cooperative banks, ensuring convenience for seniors and vulnerable citizens.
