Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Cabinet has approved the state’s new liquor policy for 2025–26, bringing significant changes, including a relaxation of restrictions on dry days. The new draft policy aims to streamline liquor regulations while also accommodating social and international events hosted in the state.
A major highlight of the revised policy is that hotels rated three-star and above will now be permitted to serve liquor on special occasions such as weddings, corporate events, and international conferences. This move is seen as an effort to boost tourism and the hospitality sector, while still maintaining regulatory oversight.
The number of dry days — days when liquor sales are banned — will also be reduced under the new policy. However, the government has clarified that public health concerns and responsible alcohol consumption will remain top priorities.
Officials noted that the policy will include stricter enforcement mechanisms to curb illegal sales and underage drinking. The Excise Department is expected to issue detailed guidelines soon, outlining how the revised norms will be implemented across the state.
