Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to face more intense rainfall over the next two days, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange Alerts in seven districts and Yellow Alerts across several others. The IMD warns of heavy downpours and isolated strong winds touching 50 km/h, raising concerns about potential landslides, flash floods, and travel disruptions.
Districts under Orange Alert today include Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur. Tomorrow, the alert will extend to include Palakkad and Malappuram as well. Several northern districts, including Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, will remain on Yellow Alert through Tuesday.
With rainfall expected to range between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours, residents in vulnerable regions—especially near hill slopes, rivers, and dam catchment zones—are urged to shift to safer locations. Authorities have also advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and warned tourists to stay away from waterfalls, reservoirs, and high-range areas.
The state’s disaster management authorities are on high alert, closely monitoring developments to ensure swift response to any emergency situations.
