Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of thunderstorm-linked eastern rains set to lash Kerala over the next few days, with showers intensifying from Wednesday. The rains are expected mainly in the afternoon and nighttime hours, particularly across hilly regions, prompting authorities to urge the public to remain alert.
According to the IMD, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts on Wednesday, while Pathanamthitta and Idukki may witness continued heavy spells on Thursday. A Yellow Alert has been issued for these districts as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the severe cyclonic storm ‘Shakthi’ remains active over the northeast Arabian Sea. The system, currently moving southwestward, is expected to weaken gradually before changing course toward the east and losing strength further in the coming days, the IMD added.
