Thiruvananthapuram: The southwest monsoon has roared back to life in Kerala after a brief pause, thanks to the formation of twin low-pressure systems over Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The state is now bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall through Friday, with weather alerts issued across multiple districts.
Orange Alerts have been issued for Kannur and Kasaragod today (Monday), while Yellow Alerts are in effect for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. Although no Orange Alerts are issued for Tuesday, heavy rainfall is still expected in several northern districts, including Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
The intensity builds mid-week, with Orange Alerts on Wednesday for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kannur, and Kasaragod, followed by Thursday alerts in Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur, and Friday alerts in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
While southern districts may remain relatively dry on Tuesday, the rest of the state — except Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam — is expected to be on rain alert from Wednesday onwards. With the Bay of Bengal and northwest Pacific Ocean predicted to turn more active, the IMD has warned of a potential spike in rainfall intensity in the days ahead.
