Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will continue to experience widespread rainfall until Monday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of isolated heavy downpours and urging the public to remain alert.
A yellow alert has been sounded in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod for Saturday. On Sunday, alerts will cover Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, while Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod will remain under watch on Monday.
The IMD predicts a temporary weakening of rainfall from August 18, but a new low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal—likely to form near the Odisha–West Bengal coast around August 27—could trigger another spell of intense monsoon showers in Kerala by month-end.
Adding to the caution, strong winds of 40–50 km/h are expected in isolated areas until Sunday. Authorities have also banned fishing along the Kerala coast till Sunday, the Karnataka coast till Tuesday, and the Lakshadweep coast till Monday due to rough sea conditions.
