Thiruvananthapuram: The monsoon is set to intensify over Kerala from tomorrow, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy downpours and thunderstorms across the state until Wednesday.
On Tuesday, heavy showers are expected in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki, prompting authorities to issue a yellow alert. The alert will extend to Pathanamthitta and Idukki on Wednesday as well.
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall means 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain within 24 hours. In addition, winds gusting at 30–40 kmph may lash parts of the state, raising the risk of damage in vulnerable areas.
Officials have urged the public to stay alert and exercise caution, especially in landslide-prone regions and low-lying areas that are susceptible to flooding and lightning strikes.
