Kerala Braces for Heavy Rains and Heatwave: Yellow Alerts Issued Across Multiple Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to experience a mix of intense weather conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting isolated heavy showers and a surge in daytime temperatures.

Starting today, heavy rainfall is expected to intensify across northern Kerala. A yellow alert has been issued for Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad districts. Alerts are also in place for Wayanad and Kannur districts tomorrow, and for Malappuram and Wayanad on Wednesday. Heavy rainfall is defined as precipitation between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph are also likely in isolated areas.

Meanwhile, the IMD has sounded a yellow alert for soaring temperatures across eight districts: Kollam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Palakkad and Kozhikode may see mercury levels rise up to 37°C, while other districts could experience temperatures touching 36°C.

With high humidity compounding the heat, residents—especially in lowland areas—can expect uncomfortable and oppressive weather conditions. The IMD has advised precautions against heat stress, particularly for vulnerable groups.
