Kerala Braces for Heavy Rain: Orange Alert Issued in 4 Districts, Showers Likely Until June 28

Kerala is in for a spell of intense monsoon showers as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad today, warning of very heavy rainfall ranging from 115 to 204 mm in 24 hours. A yellow alert is in place for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, with forecasts of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to 50 km/h.

The weather department predicts continued heavy rain across the state, with the orange alert remaining for select districts on June 26, and yellow alerts continuing across ten districts through June 27 and 28. Coastal areas and Lakshadweep are also expected to witness squally winds and rough sea conditions, prompting a strong advisory for fishermen to stay ashore.

Authorities have urged the public—especially those in hilly and low-lying regions—to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, secure property, and follow updates from official sources. The state is on high alert as safety measures remain in force until June 28.
