Thiruvananthapuram: Monsoon showers continue to lash Kerala, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing multiple alerts across the state. While no heavy rainfall warning is in effect for today, yellow alerts are in place for eight districts — Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod — due to the possibility of moderate rain and gusty winds up to 40 km/h.
Rainfall is expected to intensify by Friday, prompting the IMD to issue an orange alert for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts.
In addition, the National Centre for Ocean Information Services has warned of rough sea conditions along the Kerala coast from Thursday evening. Fisherfolk and coastal residents are advised to remain alert as coastal flooding may occur.
The IMD has also warned of isolated strong winds reaching 50–60 km/h, likely to persist until Sunday across the state.
The weather disturbance behind the wet spell — ‘VIFF’, a low-pressure system over the Western Pacific Ocean — has weakened into a cyclonic circulation. As it drifts towards the northern Bay of Bengal, Kerala is expected to experience continued rainfall over the next five days.
