Just a WhatsApp Message Away: Aadhaar Card Now Available for Download on WhatsApp

Aadhaar has become an essential document in everyday life, required for everything from opening bank accounts and buying SIM cards to accessing government services and welfare schemes. Until now, downloading an Aadhaar card involved visiting the UIDAI website or using the DigiLocker app—a process many users found time-consuming and inconvenient.

Making the process simpler, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now enabled citizens to download their Aadhaar card directly through WhatsApp. With this new facility, users can get a PDF copy of their Aadhaar in just a few easy steps.

To access the service, users simply need to send a “Hi” message to UIDAI’s official WhatsApp number +91 90131 51515. An automated chat will begin, offering multiple Aadhaar-related options. Users must choose the DigiLocker option, after which they will be asked to confirm the creation of a DigiLocker account.

Once the account is set up, users need to enter their 12-digit Aadhaar number. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar for verification. After successful authentication, a list of Aadhaar-linked documents will appear, allowing users to select Aadhaar and download it in PDF format.

The service permits downloading one document at a time, and Aadhaar must be linked to DigiLocker to use this feature. If Aadhaar is not already linked, users can do so through the DigiLocker app or the official website before using the WhatsApp service.

This new WhatsApp-based feature is expected to make Aadhaar access faster, easier and more convenient for millions of users across the country.
