The Centre has proposed a 30-day grace period after the expiry of a driving licence, during which it will continue to remain valid. The provision is part of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026, introduced in the Lok Sabha by Jitin Prasada.
The bill seeks to amend 79 central laws across 23 ministries. It proposes changes to 784 provisions. Out of these, 717 provisions are set to be decriminalised to promote ease of doing business. Another 67 provisions aim to improve ease of living. The proposed amendments are intended to simplify regulations and reduce legal burdens for citizens and businesses.
