Infosys Fires 240 Trainees Over Test Failures Amid Ongoing Layoffs

Bengaluru: In yet another wave of job cuts, Indian IT major Infosys has terminated 240 trainee employees after they failed to clear internal assessment tests. This follows a similar move in February 2025, when the company laid off nearly 300 employees.

The affected trainees had joined in October 2024, many of whom had been waiting since 2022 to begin their roles due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, project backlogs, and recruitment slowdowns.

In emails sent to employees on April 18, Infosys cited their inability to meet required qualification standards as the reason for the termination.

Despite the layoffs, the company has extended a helping hand—offering free upskilling programs to enhance employability, a gesture also made to those laid off earlier this year. Infosys further stated that trainees who complete the training successfully will be eligible to apply for openings at Infosys BPM Limited.

The move reflects ongoing challenges in the IT sector, with companies tightening performance standards amid evolving business demands.
