India’s First Bullet Train to Hit the Tracks on August 15 Next Year; Top Speed 329 kmph

New Delhi: India’s first bullet train service will be launched on August 15 next year, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced. In the initial phase, the high-speed train will operate over a 100-kilometre stretch from Surat to Bilimora, the minister said.

The 508-kilometre Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor will be completed in five phases. The first phase will connect Surat and Bilimora, while the remaining four phases are expected to be completed by December 2029, according to the minister.

The bullet train will have a total of 12 stations, with four stops in Maharashtra and eight in Gujarat. The train is designed to operate at speeds of up to 320 kmph, with a maximum speed of 329 kmph.

Currently, the journey between Ahmedabad and Mumbai takes around nine hours. Once the bullet train project is fully completed, the travel time for the 508-kilometre distance will be reduced to just 2 hours and 7 minutes.

“India’s first bullet train service will begin operations on Independence Day in 2027,” Ashwini Vaishnaw said, highlighting a major leap forward in the country’s rail infrastructure.
