Thiruvananthapuram: The final match of the India–Sri Lanka women’s T20 series will be played today at the Greenfield Stadium, Karyavattom, Thiruvananthapuram. Having already secured the series by winning the first four matches, the Indian women’s team will be aiming for a clean sweep in the last encounter. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
India have displayed clear dominance in both batting and bowling throughout the series, winning all four matches convincingly. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, the team will look to repeat the same strong performance in the final game as well.
With the series already in the bag, India may experiment with their bench strength. G. Kamalini is likely to make her debut for India, with the team possibly resting either Harleen Deol or Richa Ghosh to give Kamalini an opportunity.
Opener Shafali Verma has been in sensational form, scoring three consecutive half-centuries in the series. Star batter Smriti Mandhana’s return to form in the previous match has further strengthened India’s batting lineup. Richa Ghosh’s explosive middle-order batting continues to pose a major threat to Sri Lanka, while bowlers Renuka Singh, Deepti Sharma, and others have also been in fine form.
On the other hand, the Sri Lankan women’s team will be hoping to salvage some pride with a consolation victory. Captain Chamari Athapaththu has been the lone bright spot with the bat, while the rest of the batting lineup has struggled. The bowling unit has also failed to pose a serious challenge to India. In the fourth match, India broke their own record for the highest team total in women’s T20 cricket, underlining the weakness of the Sri Lankan bowling attack.
Today’s match marks the third women’s T20 international to be played at the Karyavattom venue.
