Indian Railways has strengthened passenger safety and security over the past five years, with more than 52,000 arrests made for offences related to railway property. According to data shared by Ashwini Vaishnaw, a total of 52,494 persons were arrested between 2021 and 2025 under the Railway Property Act. Complaints were filed against over 50,000 offenders in courts.
In the same period, 12,157 incidents of stone pelting were reported. Police arrested 8,441 persons in connection with these cases. Railways also reported only three derailments caused by miscreant activities in five years.
Authorities said multiple steps have been taken to improve security. These include increased patrolling, intelligence coordination, and surveillance using drones and CCTV cameras. Public awareness campaigns have also been conducted to prevent tampering with tracks and ensure safe train operations.
