Indian Nurse Nimisha Priya Faces Execution in Yemen on July 16; ₹8.57 Crore Demanded for Clemency

New Delhi: Indian nurse Nimisha Priya is set to be executed in Yemen on July 16, following her conviction in the 2017 murder of Yemeni national Talal. The Yemeni Public Prosecutor has issued the execution order, which has now been delivered to prison authorities in Sana’a and shared with the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia.

Despite years of diplomatic efforts, legal battles, and international appeals, no breakthrough has been achieved in halting the death sentence.

According to Yemeni human rights activist Samuel Jerome, the only remaining lifeline is to secure a pardon from the victim’s family—a clemency that comes with a steep price tag: ₹8.57 crore (approximately USD 1 million) in “blood money” (diya).

Nimisha’s supporters and global rights groups are now making urgent last-minute pleas to raise the required amount and persuade the victim’s family to withdraw the execution demand.

As the clock ticks down, calls are intensifying for swift government intervention, with many hoping that diplomacy, public support, and humanity will converge in time to save Nimisha’s life.
