Kerala’s Industries Minister P. Rajeev has said the proposed India–UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) could be a double-edged sword for the State’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
While the deal promises greater export opportunities and global market access, Rajeev warned that rising production costs and stiff competition from UK firms could strain Kerala’s small industries.
Minister stressed that technical upgrades, quality improvements, and global supply chain integration are vital for MSMEs to stay competitive. Without these changes, many may find it difficult to tap into international markets.
The Minister assured that the State government is rolling out policy support, skill development, and technology adoption programs to help MSMEs leverage the benefits of the FTA while cushioning against its risks.
