The 2030 Commonwealth Games have been officially awarded to India, with Ahmedabad selected as the host city. The decision was announced at the Commonwealth Sports Executive Board meeting held in Glasgow.
This will be India’s second time hosting the Games, after successfully conducting the 2010 edition in New Delhi. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha hailed the announcement as a “moment of immense pride” for the nation, especially as it coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Commonwealth Games.
India was represented at the Glasgow ceremony by P.T. Usha, Union Sports Ministry Joint Secretary Kunal, and Gujarat Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi.
The announcement comes as India is simultaneously pushing for an even bigger global sporting milestone — hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. The country has already submitted a Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirming India’s strong ambition to bring the Olympics to Indian soil.
