India Takes Global Lead in Traditional Medicine, Says PM Modi at WHO Summit

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday highlighted the growing importance of global collaboration in traditional medicine, describing it as a powerful bridge between ancient wisdom and modern healthcare. Addressing the WHO Traditional Medicine Summit, the Prime Minister said India is proud to host the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, calling it a landmark achievement for the country.

“It is India’s privilege and a matter of pride that the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine has been established in Jamnagar,” PM Modi said, noting that the centre symbolises India’s commitment to promoting evidence-based traditional healing systems worldwide.

Emphasising India’s rich medical heritage, the Prime Minister said systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani and Siddha have served humanity for centuries by focusing on prevention, balance and holistic well-being. PM stressed the need to combine these time-tested practices with scientific research, innovation and global standards to enhance their credibility and reach.

PM Modi pointed out that rising lifestyle diseases, mental health challenges and climate-linked health risks demand integrated healthcare solutions. Traditional medicine, PM said, can play a complementary role alongside modern medicine in addressing these global concerns.

Calling for stronger international partnerships, the Prime Minister urged nations, researchers and healthcare professionals to work together to build inclusive, accessible and people-centric healthcare systems. PM described the WHO Traditional Medicine Summit as a crucial step towards shaping a healthier and more sustainable future.

The summit brought together global health leaders, policymakers, scientists and practitioners, reinforcing India’s role as a key driver in the worldwide recognition and advancement of traditional medicine.
