India Set to Unveil Its First Comprehensive Anti-Terror Policy

India is preparing to release its first-ever comprehensive national anti-terror policy, aimed at addressing emerging and evolving threats to internal security. Senior government sources said the policy is in its final stages and is expected to be unveiled soon.

The proposed framework places strong emphasis on digital radicalisation, acknowledging the growing role of online platforms, encrypted messaging apps and social media in extremist recruitment and propaganda. The misuse of open and porous borders for terror financing, arms trafficking and infiltration is another major area of concern addressed in the policy.

The policy also focuses on conversion networks allegedly funded by foreign entities, which security agencies say are being used as fronts for ideological radicalisation and destabilisation efforts. Enhanced monitoring of foreign funding, stricter regulatory mechanisms and improved intelligence coordination form key pillars of the proposed strategy.

Officials said the policy aims to bring together central and state agencies under a unified counter-terror framework, strengthening intelligence sharing, investigation, prosecution and prevention. It also seeks to modernise counter-terror operations through the use of advanced technology, data analytics and capacity building of security forces.

By introducing a structured and nationwide approach, the government hopes the policy will not only counter immediate terror threats but also prevent long-term radicalisation and extremist influence, reinforcing India’s internal security architecture in an increasingly complex global environment.
