India-Netherlands Relations Strengthen as PM Modi and PM Dick Schoof Hold First Talks

On December 18, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Netherlands’ new Prime Minister, Dick Schoof, held their first phone conversation since Schoof assumed office in July 2024. The dialogue underscored the trusted and valued partnership between the two nations, grounded in shared democratic values and the rule of law.

The leaders discussed expanding cooperation in key areas, including water management, agriculture, health, trade, defense, security, innovation, green hydrogen, and semiconductors. They also highlighted the importance of enhancing cultural and educational exchanges to strengthen people-to-people ties.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting global peace, security, and stability, agreeing to maintain regular contact to advance their bilateral relations.

Expressing his satisfaction on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi said:

“The Netherlands is a trusted & valued partner. We are committed to advancing our ties in diverse sectors including water, agriculture, security, technology, semiconductors, and renewable energy.”

Prime Minister Schoof echoed similar sentiments, stating on X:

“We spoke about strengthening the good relations between our countries and explored opportunities for closer strategic partnerships in areas like security, green hydrogen, and healthcare.”

This conversation highlights a renewed commitment from both nations to deepen cooperation and explore new avenues for growth and innovation in their bilateral partnership.
