Amit Shah on Monday said India has become free from Naxalism, stating that the top leadership and central structure of Maoist groups have been largely dismantled. Replying to a debate in the Lok Sabha on efforts to curb Left-Wing Extremism, he said the government has achieved major success in ending the long-standing violence.
Amit Shah also criticised the Congress, alleging that the party failed to take effective action against Naxalism in the past. He targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, claiming he had appeared with individuals sympathetic to Maoists and shared content supportive of them.
The Home Minister further alleged that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had accepted Naxal support during elections in the 1970s. The remarks sparked political reactions during the parliamentary proceedings.
