India Extends Airspace Ban on Pakistani Aircraft Amid Border Tensions; IAF Plans Military Drills

New Delhi: In a significant move reflecting ongoing regional tensions, India has extended its ban on Pakistani aircraft from entering Indian airspace until August 23, 2025, as announced by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol.

Originally imposed on April 30, the ban prohibits all Pakistani-registered aircraft, including those owned, operated, or leased by Pakistani airlines or the military, from using India’s domestic flight corridors. The extended restriction applies to both civilian and military aircraft.

The decision comes amid reciprocal airspace restrictions, with Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority having also extended its ban on Indian aircraft entering Pakistani airspace until August 24, 2025.

Adding to the heightened security posture, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) for military exercises along the India-Pakistan border from July 23 to 25, covering the stretch from Barmer to Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

These temporary flight restrictions aim to divert civilian air traffic away from military zones, ensuring aviation safety during active defense drills.

The developments underscore a continued state of alert and strategic caution between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
