Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high-alert warning, banning all fishing activities along the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts from May 28 to June 1, 2025, due to the forecast of dangerously strong winds and turbulent sea conditions.
Key Weather Alerts:
- May 28–31: Gale-force winds of 40–60 km/h expected off the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep shores.
- Until June 1: Kerala’s coast may be battered by gusts reaching up to 60 km/h.
- May 28–29: The northern southwest Arabian Sea and parts of the Bay of Bengal may face winds as high as 65 km/h.
- May 30–June 1: Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Konkan coast, Maldives, and the Andaman Sea are all expected to witness severe winds between 40–65 km/h with rough weather conditions.
Fishermen are strictly advised to avoid venturing into the sea during this period.
The IMD has also released a detailed marine map to assist coastal communities in identifying high-risk zones.
