Historic India-Nigeria Talks Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Nigeria marked a pivotal moment in bilateral relations, with significant discussions held between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 17 years, emphasized enhancing cooperation across key sectors including energy, defense, and trade.

During the visit, both leaders signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at boosting collaboration in critical areas. Modi’s visit is seen as a major step in advancing the India-Nigeria partnership, with India having already invested over USD 27 billion in various Nigerian sectors.

This meeting further highlights the importance of India-Nigeria ties, particularly given Nigeria’s strategic role in West Africa and its influence on the global stage.
