Tensions flared in the Kerala Legislative Assembly as three Opposition Congress MLAs — Roji M. John, M. Vincent, and Saneesh Kumar Joseph — were suspended for allegedly attacking security personnel during a heated protest inside the House. The incident has plunged the ongoing session into fresh turmoil, further widening the rift between the ruling and opposition benches.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister M.B. Rajesh introduced the motion, accusing the Congress-led UDF (United Democratic Front) members of “crossing the point of no return” by seriously injuring Watch and Ward personnel while attempting to disrupt proceedings. The House passed the resolution with the LDF (Left Democratic Front) majority, suspending the three MLAs for the remainder of the session.
The clash reportedly broke out during an intense UDF protest demanding the resignation of ministers over alleged administrative failures. When security staff tried to block Opposition members from approaching the Speaker’s chair, a physical scuffle ensued, leaving Assembly staff injured and proceedings in chaos.
Reacting strongly, Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan condemned the government’s move as a “blatant attempt to crush democratic dissent”, claiming the suspension was politically motivated.
Speaker A.N. Shamseer has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident as the Assembly remains on edge. The confrontation marks yet another flashpoint in a series of stormy sessions, reflecting Kerala’s increasingly confrontational political climate.
