Hefty Penalties Imposed for Biomedical Waste Dumping in Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has levied an ‘environmental compensation’ of over ₹1 crore on four establishments found guilty of illegally dumping biomedical waste. This stringent action comes as part of the state’s intensified efforts to tackle environmental violations and safeguard public health.

The violators, including hospitals and waste management facilities, were penalized for improper disposal practices that posed significant risks to the environment and surrounding communities. TNPCB officials emphasized that such violations would be met with severe consequences to deter future offenses.

This crackdown highlights the growing focus on stricter enforcement of waste management regulations in Tamil Nadu, ensuring accountability among establishments handling hazardous biomedical waste. The board has also urged the public to report similar violations to curb environmental degradation.
