Heavy Showers on the Horizon: Yellow Alert in Four Kerala Districts, IMD Warns of Thunderstorms & Strong Winds

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to face another round of isolated heavy downpours today, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) placing Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kasaragod under a yellow alert. Alongside the rain, residents can expect thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h in certain areas.

Weather experts predict a fresh surge in monsoon activity by midweek, as a low-pressure system is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal near the Andhra–Odisha coast by Wednesday. IMD’s forecast suggests the rains could intensify across Kerala by the weekend. The Madden–Julian Oscillation (MJO), currently advancing over the region, is also expected to fuel cyclone activity in the Bay of Bengal, adding more strength to the wet spell ahead.
