New Delhi: Torrential rains across northern India have triggered flooding concerns as the Yamuna river in Delhi rose above the danger mark today. Continuous downpours in the national capital and neighboring states have led to swollen rivers, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and severe traffic disruptions.
The water level of the Yamuna has crossed the danger mark at the Old Railway Bridge, prompting authorities to issue flood warnings and begin evacuation measures in vulnerable areas. Officials have urged residents living near the riverbanks to move to safer locations as precautionary camps are being set up.
In addition to Delhi, parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are experiencing heavy rainfall, leading to landslides, road blockages, and rising water levels in major rivers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue in several regions over the next 48 hours.
Authorities are on high alert, with disaster management teams deployed to handle emergencies. Commuters in Delhi faced severe traffic jams and delays due to waterlogging at several major intersections.
