Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall across Kerala until April 13, 2025. In light of the expected weather conditions, a yellow alert has been issued for Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur districts on April 7, and for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta districts on April 8.
The IMD attributes the anticipated rainfall to a low-pressure system developing over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal, under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation in the southeast Bay region. This weather system is projected to move northwestward over the southwest Bay of Bengal until April 8, before gradually shifting northward toward the west-central Bay over the next two days.
Residents have been urged to stay vigilant as the heavy rains may lead to poor visibility, temporary traffic disruptions due to waterlogging or fallen trees, power outages, crop damage, and the risk of landslides or mudslides in vulnerable areas. The IMD advises the public to follow local traffic and safety advisories, stay indoors during thunderstorms, and avoid unsafe structures.
Authorities recommend monitoring regular updates from the IMD and district administrations for the latest weather alerts and precautionary measures.
