Heatwave Alert: India Meteorological Department Forecasts Blistering Summer Ahead

New Delhi: India is bracing for a sweltering summer as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of soaring temperatures and prolonged heatwave conditions across several regions of the country.

Meteorologists predict that northern, central, and western states could witness temperatures well above normal in the coming weeks, with peak afternoon heat posing serious health risks. The department has indicated that this year’s summer may be harsher than usual, raising concerns about water scarcity, power demand, and public health.

Authorities have urged citizens to take precautionary measures, including staying indoors during peak heat hours, drinking plenty of fluids, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities. Special advisories have been issued for children, senior citizens, and outdoor workers, who are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

State governments are activating heat action plans, setting up relief measures such as drinking water facilities and emergency medical support. The IMD continues to closely monitor weather developments and is expected to issue timely updates as temperatures climb.

With the mercury set to rise sharply, experts stress the importance of preparedness and awareness to minimize the impact of the extreme summer conditions.
