Government to Distribute 200 Deep-Sea Fishing Vessels Nationwide: Amit Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Central Government will soon distribute 200 modern deep-sea fishing vessels across the country to boost India’s marine economy and support traditional fishermen.

Speaking at a national fisheries development event, Shah said the initiative aims to empower coastal communities, enhance sustainable fishing practices, and reduce dependence on foreign waters. The vessels will be equipped with state-of-the-art navigation, safety, and cold storage systems, enabling fishermen to venture further into the sea and improve their earnings.

The Home Minister emphasized that the program is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to strengthen India’s Blue Economy and ensure that fishermen benefit from technological and infrastructural advancements.

He also highlighted that the distribution will prioritize states with significant coastal populations, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Odisha, and Maharashtra. Training and financial assistance will be provided to fishermen to ensure effective utilization of the new vessels.

“This initiative is not just about providing boats — it’s about securing livelihoods, boosting exports, and building a self-reliant marine sector,” Shah said.

The government expects the program to generate thousands of jobs in the fisheries and allied sectors, marking a major step toward transforming India’s coastal economy.
