Government Approves 3% Hike in Dearness Allowance for Central Employees Ahead of Diwali

In a welcome move just before the festive season, the Indian government has sanctioned a 3% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners. This raises the DA from 50% to 53% of their basic salary, offering a financial boost to millions. The hike is seen as a significant Diwali gift, as it helps employees manage inflation and rising living costs.

The revised DA is retroactive from July 1, ensuring employees receive arrears. Entry-level employees will see their allowance grow by around ₹540 per month, providing timely relief during the festival season. This follows a 4% increase earlier in the year.

This adjustment is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to address inflationary pressures and support public servants financially.
