Google Pay Introduces Convenience Fee on Card-Based Bill Payments

Google Pay has implemented a convenience fee for bill payments made via credit and debit cards, ranging from 0.5% to 1% of the transaction amount, plus applicable GST. This change impacts users paying for utilities like electricity and gas through their cards, while UPI-linked bank account payments remain free of charge. The exact fee is displayed before completing the transaction, ensuring transparency for users. Previously, Google Pay had introduced a ₹3 convenience fee on high-value mobile recharges. This new fee structure is part of Google’s effort to cover operational costs for card-based transactions. To avoid additional charges, users are encouraged to use UPI-linked bank accounts for bill payments.
