Gold Takes a Dip in Kerala After Record-Breaking Highs – Drops ₹280 per Sovereign

Kochi: After hitting an all-time high just days ago, gold prices in Kerala have taken a breather, dropping for the second consecutive day. The price of gold fell by ₹280 per sovereign (8 grams) today, bringing the rate down to ₹69,760. Per gram, gold now stands at ₹8,720 with a ₹35 drop.

The correction follows a historic rally that saw gold prices soar past the ₹70,000 mark for the first time ever on Saturday, peaking at ₹70,160 per sovereign. The steep climb—driven by a ₹4,000+ surge in just four days and a single-day spike of ₹2,160—had propelled gold into record territory.

Experts link the recent volatility to global market jitters, sparked by former U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff hike proposals, which have unsettled international stock markets. With uncertainty looming, more investors are turning to gold as a safe haven, driving demand and fluctuations in pricing.
