Gold Soars to Historic High: ₹71,360 per Sovereign as Global Uncertainty Drives Surge

Kochi: In a remarkable rally, gold prices in Kerala have hit a historic high, breaching the ₹71,000 mark for the first time ever. On Thursday, prices soared by ₹840 in a single day, taking the rate to ₹71,360 per sovereign (8 grams). The per gram price now stands at ₹8,920 — a ₹105 increase.

Over just two days, gold prices have surged by ₹1,600, with the rally beginning last Saturday when rates crossed the ₹70,000 threshold for the first time in history. A jump of ₹760 was also recorded on Wednesday alone.

Experts say the skyrocketing prices are driven by mounting global economic uncertainty, prompting a shift in investor sentiment toward gold as a secure and reliable investment. The heightened demand is fueling the sharp price rise, with no immediate signs of cooling off.
