Kochi: Gold prices in Kerala have soared to historic levels, smashing previous records in a dramatic surge. On Monday, the price of gold shot up by ₹1,000 per sovereign (8 grams), reaching an unprecedented ₹88,560 per sovereign, while the price per gram climbed to ₹11,070, marking a ₹125 rise in a single day.
This record-breaking rally comes just weeks after gold crossed the ₹80,000 mark for the first time on September 9. Since then, the yellow metal has been on an unstoppable upward streak, setting new highs almost every day.
Analysts point to volatile global markets and a growing shift toward gold as a safe-haven investment amid economic uncertainty as key factors driving the surge.
